Kristin -- Sorry for the extremely tardy response -- it has been a really busy time around here. I'd be interested in hearing about your Rural Arts and Culture Summit, if you get an opportunity!

Oh my goodness!! I am a Wisconsin-native, and a graduate of Northland College (class of '06). When I was in school there, Stagenorth was still located in a small old church in Washburn. Now they have an absolutely gorgeous new facility and are doing so much more programming. I used to love going there. I love Wisconsin so much, especially Northern Wisconsin. I am currently working at a non-profits arts organization in rural west-central Minnesota, called A Center for the Arts. We are part of a large group of organizations and individuals who are planning a Rural Arts and Culture Summit for this summer, right here in Fergus Falls, MN.

I couldn't resist commenting on this post because I just discovered CRADLE... and to hear that you are working with Northland College, Stagenorth, and the Chequamegon Bay Arts Council is so incredibly exciting!

I hope to continue to work in the arts, and I hope to be back in Wisconsin someday as well!

Best of luck... can't wait to hear more about what your discussions lead to!

Thank you!

Thanks for the testimony, Anne. I am very impressed with their program, and their vision. It seems like an excellent place for students to learn, and faculty to teach.

Northland is a great college with a fine faculty and beautiful setting. I'm from Ashland, my Mom, sister and two Unckes graduated from Northland and all went on to have fine careers.

Thanks for this. I've sent it to my sister, who is planning to be an organic farmer and is interested in local farmers' markets, community-supported agriculture, and environmental sustainability - and lives somewhat nearby in Illinois.

I'm planning to do a research tour this coming summer to visit, among others, a couple Benedictine monastic communities which do theatre. Benedictine monks, unless some other religious orders, take a vow of stability, to live in the same community for the rest of their lives. I'm interested in how that stability might affect their experience of theatre.

Scott,

If I were at C.S. Lewis College, I don't think I could teach a class specifically on that topic, since it's a Great Books program with a uniform curriculum. However, I would happily lead an extracurricular student group in that area, and/or have a small communities arts administration internship at the theatre.

Dennis,

I just led a visiting group of Azusa Pacific students around C.S. Lewis's home the Kilns here in Oxford a couple weeks ago. I was quite impressed with them. At least one was a theatre person, if I remember correctly. Just wanted to give props to APU.:-)

Currently talking with my alam matter Azusa Pacific University, where I am teaching, about having a civic/community-based theater concentration within the BA program. Students seem excited. The students created a Theatre of Oppressed club all on their own.

The civic theater company that was born out of the department is still running strong and I am helping them find ways to engage adults, as their primary focus has been working with children.

Let me know if you need more community artists to help with creating curriculum. I would love to get in on that, as I am starting to do that for Azusa Pacific. Have some ideas from classes at NYU and working with Sojourn.
